Internet Explorer 8 Beta Experiment
Posted by Mike Scriber on Thursday, March 06, 2008
So I took the plunge this morning after seeing on digg.com that Internet Explorer 8 Beta was available for download. It took about 15 minutes to complete the process, but I was also reading blogs, my analytics and checking out the NHL Playoff Race.
After the I restarted I clicked on the IE icon on the desktop and thought to myself nothing has really changed. One thing I did notice though was an Emulate IE7 button in the toolbar. Intrigued with this button I tested it out for about 30 minutes, just to check to see if it actually works. Behold from what I see it works. As the time of this article you have to close the browser every time you wanna switch from eight to seven and seven to eight. Which can be a bit annoying.
A specific site I tested with was tsotinc.com, which I recently built in January. All the pages pass validation along with the CSS, but I noticed one major issue in IE8. This issue is the navigation doesn't work at all. You can't even click on it. What's up with that? All the navigation is a background image with text-indents. Nothing real fancy.
So at the end of all this I was frustrated and uninstalled IE8 until it's an actual release. It's finally nice to see IE come with an unistaller though.
Note: Acid3 test failed miserably.
